In January 2023, the Town of Huntington launched its innovative Permit Portal, utilizing OpenGov software to streamline the filing, review, and approval of building permits. This online system allows residents and businesses to apply for permits without visiting Town Hall, offering features such as application submission, status tracking, and direct communication with town staff.

Estimating Permit Fees

Understanding permit fees is crucial for effective project budgeting. The Town of Huntington has established a fee structure as follows:

Application Fee: A non-refundable fee of $50 is required for all building and housing permit submissions.

Permit Fees:

  • Residential Use: A base permit fee of $125.
  • Commercial/Non-Residential Use: A base permit fee of $625.
  • Additional fees are calculated based on the square footage of construction as per submitted plans/surveys.
  • Certificate of Occupancy/Completion Fee: $62.50.

Expedited Plan Review and Permit Issuance

For applicants requiring accelerated processing, the Town offers expedited plan review and permit issuance services, subject to the availability of personnel and approval by the Director of Engineering Services. Additional fees apply:

Residential Projects: $750 for up to two hours of plan review.

Commercial Projects: $2,000 for up to four hours of plan review.

Each Additional Hour: $250.

This service is designed to facilitate prompt commencement of projects under tight timeline

Unauthorized Construction or Use

Commencing construction or changing the use of a building without the necessary permits results in a penalty. The application fee for such unauthorized activities is three times the standard amount. This policy underscores the importance of obtaining proper approvals before initiating any construction or modification.
